We already reported about our Patent and Law firm supporting Uludağ Exporters Association General Secretariat (UIB) at this year’s Automechanika. Our partner and Attorney at Law, Ilyas Güclü, was authorized by UIB to represent its members in law cases. He was present from the beginning until the end of the fair. He spotted Intellectual Property Infringement of the Intellectual Property rights of the members of UIB from other exhibitors. He also defended the rights of UIB members agains infringement accusations in some cases. Here’s our recap.
The UIB was presented at the Automechanika through it’s association Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (OIB) which is only active in the automotive sector. At their own fair stand there were presented 13 different companies, not counting all the other members of the OIB who did have own stands. Since every turkish company who joined the Automechanika is a member of the OIB, the variety of cases was high.
Seven cases in five days
Ilyas Güclü helped the members of the OIB in seven cases during the fair. Three of them being about patent law, two about design law and other two about trademark law. Obviously they all treated parts of automobiles or its mechanics. He could achieve two cease and desist letters, found out one design was already ready to be deleted and could initiate the protection of a trademark which has only been a trademark acquired by use before.
We can’t report about all the details in this recap but all in all we are very happy about the cases we could work on and very grateful for the chance to work with the OIB. Especially Ilyas Güclü is proud to be able to announce that he is going to represent the OIB at other upcoming fairs. Furthermore he also got the offer to work for other associations of the UIB.

The Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (OIB) was formed in 1991 under the title of Uludag Vehicle and Auxiliary Industry Exporters’ Association (UTAYSIB) with 246 members and exports of $163 million under the umbrella of the Uludag Exporters’ Association.
As of 2015, OIB has 2.640 active memberships and it is the sole export representative of the automotive industry. All exporting main and supplier industry companies in the automotive sector in Turkey are members of OIB, which is a union of coordination for automotive sector exporters.
